Changes to Queensland Land Tax Rules

From 30 June 2023, land tax for Queensland landowners will be calculated based on their Australia-wide landholdings. Queensland land tax payable will still be based on the land value of the taxpayer’s Queensland landholdings however the rate to calculate if the owner has exceeded the tax-free threshold will depend on the value of the taxpayer’s Australia-wide landholdings.

From 30 June 2023, Queensland landowners who also own land in other states and territories will need to set up a QRO Online account via the Business Queensland website to complete a declaration stating land description, value and ownership percentage by either of the following:

      • Within 30 days of receiving a land tax assessment notice
      • On or before 31 October
